What every chain has in common

  • No chain gives the discount on medicines, state-reimbursed goods, infant formula or gift cards.
  • The discount applies to full packs only. Latvijas Aptieka's rules do not mention this.
  • Apotheka, Euroaptieka, BENU (except on Mondays) and Aptieka1 on Wednesdays only discount items priced at €1.50 or more.
  • The discount does not stack with a promotion: an item already on promotion gets no second discount. The exception is BENU on Mondays.
  • At the till, show the pharmacy card and a passport, ID card or pensioner certificate.
  • Chains can change the terms at any time. This is what their websites said on the stated date - check at the pharmacy before you buy.

Frequently asked questions

Does the senior discount cover medicines?

No. None of the seven chains gives the discount on medicines, prescription or over-the-counter. It covers vitamins, supplements, cosmetics, hygiene and medical goods.

Does the discount work in the e-shop too?

Apotheka: yes. If you are registered on apotheka.lv and aged 60+, the discount shows in the basket. BENU's Monday discount does not work in the e-shop; for other days BENU does not say. Euroaptieka, Mēness Aptieka, Mana Aptieka, Latvijas Aptieka and Aptieka1 give it in the pharmacy only.

Do I need a pensioner certificate?

If you are 60, a passport or ID card plus the pharmacy card is enough. Euroaptieka and Mēness Aptieka also give the discount to younger customers who show a pensioner certificate.

Can I get the discount on a promotional item?

Usually not: an item already on promotion gets no second discount. At Euroaptieka promotional items still count towards the item total that decides between 20% and 25%. BENU gives the discount on promotional items on Mondays. At Aptieka1 on Mondays, ask at the pharmacy: the card page and the programme rules disagree on this.

Where do these terms come from?

From the chains' own websites. Every row links to its source and shows the date we checked it. MedCena gives no discounts and is not tied to any pharmacy. Terms can change without notice.

Compare prices before you go to the pharmacy

The senior discount covers vitamins, supplements and cosmetics. MedCena shows which e-pharmacy sells them cheapest before any discount.
