Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about MedCena, how we compare medicine prices, which pharmacies we cover, and how our data is sourced from the ZVA registry.
What is MedCena?
MedCena is a free, independent medicine price comparison service for Latvia. We aggregate prices daily from major Latvian pharmacy e-shops and link them to the official ZVA (State Agency of Medicines) registry so you can find the cheapest pharmacy for any medicine.
Which pharmacies does MedCena compare?
We compare prices from the following Latvian online pharmacies: BENU, Apotheka, Euroaptieka, Saules Aptieka, InternetAptieka.
How often are medicine prices updated?
Prices are collected daily from pharmacy e-shop public data. We crawl each pharmacy website to ensure the most up-to-date pricing information.
What is the ZVA maximum price?
The ZVA (Zāļu valsts aģentūra) sets the maximum retail price for registered medicines in Latvia. MedCena shows this price so you can see how much below the legal maximum each pharmacy charges.
Can I buy medicines through MedCena?
No. MedCena is a comparison tool only - we do not sell, deliver, or dispense medicines. Once you find the best price, you can visit the pharmacy e-shop directly to make your purchase.
How do I compare the price of my whole shopping list?
Open a product page and press "To shopping list" to add the item to your list. Once the list holds several items, open it from the icon at the top of the page - we will show which pharmacy sells the whole list for less.
