What is the Latvian medicine registry?
The Latvian medicine registry is the official database maintained by the State Agency of Medicines (ZVA) covering all medicines registered in Latvia. It holds each medicine's registration status, active substance, prescription status, and the official product information.
MedCena adds what the official registry does not have: current prices and availability across Latvian online pharmacies. For every medicine you can see where it is cheapest to buy today.
We do not sell medicines and receive no payment from pharmacies - MedCena is an independent price comparison tool.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check whether a medicine is registered in Latvia?
Type the medicine name or active substance into the search at the top of the page. If the medicine is in the Latvian registry and sold in online pharmacies, you will see its details and current prices.
How do prescription medicines differ from over-the-counter ones?
Prescription medicines can only be bought with a doctor's prescription; over-the-counter medicines without one. The status is set by the registration documents and shown in the medicine registry.
What are the SmPC and the package leaflet?
The SmPC is the official ZVA-approved document on a medicine's composition, dosing, and use. On every medicine page MedCena links to the official document in the ZVA registry.
Where can I find the list of reimbursed medicines?
